“After suffering a miscarriage prior to the birth of our daughter I knew I wanted to explore working with a doula to support me through the entire process of pregnancy, birth, and becoming a new mom. We found Kathy through a recommendation from our OBGYN and could not have been more happy with the experience of working with her. Not only was she warm, caring, and thoughtful but she was supportive throughout the entire process no matter what I needed. She always quickly responded to texts about crazy questions during pregnancy and she was a wonderful support through my induction and birth experience. Not only was she there for me but also my husband every step of the way. She helped him learn how to be the support I needed - we truly were a team of three during the birth! She was also so supportive and understanding of my needs after we brought our daughter home. We still keep in touch with Kathy. “After my first birth (without a doula), I knew that having a support person who understood and respected my needs would be very important. I had a lot of birth trauma and was hesitant to let anyone in during this time. Kathy came into my life at the perfect moment and became a safe place for me. Many people reacted with questions when I told them that I would be birthing at home but Kathy approached all my wishes with excitement and unwavering support. She checked in on me frequently during my pregnancy and even taught me exercises to keep me feeling my best. Most importantly, Kathy understood that I was in control of my birth. When it was finally time to have a baby, Kathy came over to my house and entered right into our flow. She worked to keep me and my husband comfortable. She brought all sorts of tools that a birthing woman might find useful. I always say that my birth was intense at times but never painful and I credit Kathy with a lot of that. She anticipated what I needed even before I was able to say it. In my postpartum, Kathy helped me integrate my birth and assimilate to my role as a mother of two. She did her part to ‘mother the mother’ and made sure I had everything I needed. So much so, that we are welcoming her back to be our doula for our next homebirth.”
